  The Evil Dead (also known as: Evil Dead, The Book of the Dead, Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead and The Evil Dead, the Ultimate Experience in Grueling Horror) is a 1981 horror film written and directed by Sam Raimi, starring Bruce Campbell, Ellen Sandweiss, and Betsy Baker. The film is a story of five college students vacationing in an isolated cabin in a wooded area. Their vacation becomes gruesome when they find an audiotape that releases evil spirits.

The film was extremely controversial for its graphic terror, violence, and gore, being initially turned down by almost all U.S. film distributors until a European company finally bought it in the Cannes Film Festival marketplace. It was finally released into theaters on October 15, 1981. Although its budget was probably no more than $400,000, the film was a moderate success at the box office, grossing a total of $2,400,000 in the U.S. upon its initial release. Despite getting mixed reviews by critics at the time, it now has a dedicated cult following. The film has spawned two sequels, Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness, and a stage musical; work on a script for a further film has started.

Giant shoe car – a step forward?

A footwear manufacturer in China has made an electric car out of a giant shoe.

It can carry two people up to 250 miles at speeds of up to 20mph on a single charge of the battery underneath the driver’s seat.

The leather ‘bodywork’ is made in the same way as a normal shoe but on a bigger scale, using the hide of five bulls.

A Kang Shoe company spokesman said it took six months to design and build the car at a cost of around £4,000.

The company demonstrated its bizarre vehicle outside its headquarters in Wenzhou in eastern China’s Zhejiang Province.

Workers queued up for the chance to drive the shoe car which is 10ft long and more than three feet high.

Company president Wang Zhengtao says it is designed as a promotional tool and he plans to make 40 for stores around the country.

The mother of all potholes

A Shropshire driver found himself in a hole lot of trouble when his 4×4 crashed into a water-filled crater in the road.

Chris Nedic and his two sons, Chris and Carl, had to jump to safety when their Nissan Navara dropped headfirst into the huge 4ft deep pothole.

The incident occurred when the three men were driving home along the A464 near Albrighton.

Chris junior, 23, escaped with minor cuts and bruises while Carl, 25, had to receive hospital treatment for injuries to his back and leg.

Meanwhile, Chris senior was injured slightly when he fell into the hole trying to rescue the vehicle.

According to police, only the size of the new £24,000 vehicle saved them from being completely submerged.

The huge hole was caused by two burst water pipes, an incident that left around 2,000 homes in the area without water.

Chris junior said: “I thought I was a goner. We are lucky to be alive”.

Ambulance crews were sent to the accident scene but were forced to retreat after paramedics feared a second hole was opening up.

An ambulance spokesman said: “Had it been a small car, the whole vehicle might have been submerged and that could have led to a very different situation.”

So tonight at Flat Rock Tap in Hammond. The place was filled with great people to see John Wasem play on Thursday night Live Band night. I hung out with some great people that I thought were the following.

Plus I think this chick gave me a ride home but I swear Natalie and the new Katie who were working tonight when I walked in, are way better looking and way more nice.

Screw Soblieskie or however you say her last name, oh by the way Lent is coming next Wednesday.

INDIANAPOLIS | A special prosecutor says a grand jury has indicted the state’s top election official on seven felony counts, including voter fraud and perjury.

John Dowd said Thursday that Republican Secretary of State Charlie White faces three counts of voter fraud and two counts of perjury for using his ex-wife’s home in Fishers instead of his condo as his address when voting in the May primary. He also faces theft and financial fraud charges.

White has said the address situation was an honest mistake caused by his busy schedule and new marriage.

White’s office did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.

The Republican defeated Democrat Vop Osili in November. He would be forced to resign if convicted.

Statement from Governor Daniels about Secretary of State Charlie White:

“This news is sad and regrettable, but the only course of honor is for Mr. White to step down from his duties, at least during the duration of these proceedings until a verdict is reached.  It would be neither credible nor appropriate for the state’s top elections official to continue to perform his duties while contesting criminal charges, some of them under the very laws the Secretary of State implements. I have consulted with each of the other statewide elected officials and our judgment about this is unanimous.”

INDIANAPOLIS (March 3, 2011) – Indiana Republican Party Chairman Eric Holcomb released the following statement on Secretary of State Charlie White:

“What we learned today is disappointing.  We think it’s appropriate Secretary of State Charlie White take a leave of absence from his official duties until the legal process reaches a conclusion.”

“Today’s announcement is sad news for Indiana. As the former Secretary of State and a current Representative of the people of Indiana, I agree with Governor Daniels that Secretary White cannot credibly or adequately do his duties while contesting criminal charges. Mr. White should step down until the charges are adjudicated.”
